Matar Paneer/ Mutter Paneer Recipe

Mattar paneer, also known as matar paneer, muttar paneer, and mutter paneer, is a modern restaurant-style and vegetarian North Indian dish consisting of peas and paneer in a tomato-based sauce, spiced with garam masala. It is often served with rice and an Indian type of bread.

Paneer is an Indian cheese that’s made from curdled milk and some sort of fruit or vegetable acid like lemon juice. There are some distinct traits that make Paneer the cheese that it is: It’s an unaged cheese. It’s a soft cheese.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp oil
400gm paneer cubes
2cup peas
2 large tomatoes (boiled & mashed)
1tsp zeera
1inch cinnamon stick
4cloves
4green cardamom
2 black cardamom
1large onion (chopped)
2tsp ginger garlic paste
1tsp turmeric powder
1tsp red pepper powder
2tsp coriander powder
1cup milk
1tbsp clarified butter (ghee)
Salt to taste
FOR GARNISH
1tsp kasoori methi
1tsp Garm masala

How to cook:

Heat oil, add cumin seeds and all other whole spices make them splutter. Now add onion, saute it for 4 to 5 minutes.

When it seems translucent add peas and fry it for a couple of minutes. Add ginger garlic paste and saute a while.

Now ad turmeric powder, red pepper powder and coriander powder, add salt to taste.saute it well until it releases oil.

On the other hand take a pan and boil tomatoes. When it boiled mashed these tomatoes in the same water and add it (with the water) in to the gravy.

Now mashed add 4 to 5 paneer cubes and add it in the gravy. Add milk and 2 tsp cream(optional) too. In the other pan put some ghee and fry the paneer cubes.

Add these cubes in to the gravy., cook for 10 to 15 minutes on low flame. Garnish with dried fenugreek seeds and garam masala, serve hot.

Add some cream for more flavors
